About Me

Hernan Haro, human, son, husband & father

What I am doing now

In early 2021 I began working on MrPink VC, a seed stage VC fund that invests in tech Founders located in CAPCUC = Colombia + Argentina + Peru + Uruguay + Chile. During that first year of operation, I invested most of my energies in assembling an amazing team, raising the first capital, and making our first investment (5 as of Jan 9 2021). If you're curious here is a nice article from Forbes covering MrPink's launch.

The 2020 lockdown

I split my time between my work at ConsumerAffairs, advising tech startups, and mentoring entrepreneurs from the Founders Institute chapter in Buenos Aires. At the Founders Institue I focus on Growth, leveraging my experience at ConsumerAffairs and Pulpo, a U.S. Hispanic Digital Advertising startup acquired by Entravision in 2014.

On the startup side, I am having a lot of fun helping scale Geblix and seeing Extendeal gain traction. Both startups are doing really well during the pandemic, growing despite the adverse local scenario, and building a strong base for accelerated growth in 2021.

The Covid lockdown has provided me a fantastic opportunity for spending time with my family, deep reflection, and exploring new passions. During the lockdown (still ongoing for those of us in Buenos Aires), I found that the lack of commute and external distractions was the perfect land for trying new things.

Some of the things I manage to do during the last months include:

  1. building gardening beds and wooden boxes for my kids;
  2. pencil drawing, sketches and portraits;
  3. working the yard, planting a bunch of trees and a lot of plants and flowers;
  4. finally building a base for my Go board;
  5. putting some content up on my site (which I procastrinated for 10+ years);
  6. make time to play the guitar;
  7. improve my daily meditation practice

What I did before

In early 2011 I joined Pulpo as COO. The Founder, Justin Kuykendall, and I grew the company aggresively and by mid 2014 we have sold it to Entravision (NYSE:EVC).

Before Pulpo, I spent a year (2009-2010) in Chile working in Management Consulting at Virtus Partners. That was right after I graduated from my Berkeley MBA program (2008-2010). Spending two year in the Bay Area, with direct contact with the Silicon Valley and the most active VC/Founder ecosystem was mind blowing.

In the distant past, I was a Strategy & Operations consultant for Deloitte, a software developer (part of the dev team of Bumeran among others), and Product Lead for TNX, a local startup delivering Telecom Expense Management solutions to businesses.

In the prehistoric era, I got a MsC. in Industrial Engineering at the Buenos Aires Institue of Technology (ITBA), was a national finalist at the International Olympiad in Informatics, and also took music composition, singing and electric guitar lessons for many year.

Personal life

I've been married to my wife since 2008, and living with her since 2003. I am very fortunate to have her, and grateful of her continuous support. She joined Pulpo before I did, and led Ads Operations there from inception to acquisition. Not sure Justin and I would have made it without her.

We have an 8-year old son and a 3-year old daughter. I love spending time with them. Being a father really puts things into perspective, or at least it did to me. Time is the most important and scarce resource we have, and in the long run, what will shape the humanity's future the most is how good of a parents we're today. I like to think I am doing a good job.
